Crown Pre-Trial
- Duty Counsel set up Crown Pre-Trial to discuss Derek’s court matter
- The Crown Attorney reviewed all the additional documentation
- The Crown attorney approved Derek for a Mental Health Diversion
Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)
Derek meets with CMHA and completes the intake and develops a Mental Health Diversion Plan which includes:
- Counselling
- Anti-Theft programming
- Enroll in an Adapted Dialectical Behaviour Therapy Justice Group (A-DBT Justice Group)
Next court appearance
- Derek attended court and provided his update on how he is doing with his Mental Health Diversion Plan
- Derek’s court matter was adjourned (moved to) a new date to continue the work he is doing
Last court appearance
- Derek attended court and his CMHA worker provided information to the courts that Derek completed all the requirements of his Mental Health Diversion Plan
- The Justice of the Peace agreed to withdraw his charges
- Derek no longer has to attend court and he will not have a criminal record
Derek continues to work on skills
- Derek continues to meet with his counsellor on a bi-weekly basis
- Derek continues to use the skills he learned in his A-DBT Justice Group with his support staff at the group home
- Overall he is doing well and has learned a lot during the court process
